Sacramento -- A leading West Coast pro-family organization says today's signature of Governor Jerry Brown on SB 1306 reveals who's for and against real marriage and the best interests of children.

SB 1306 erases the voter-approved words, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California," as well as every other statutory reference to "man and woman," "male and female," and "husband and wife" in the California Family Code.

"To do this in an election year is brazen defiance of the voters and cold-hearted indifference to the needs of children," said Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, which promotes moral virtues for the common good. "Jerry Brown's signature and the Democrat-controlled Legislature's approval of SB 1306 clearly shows who's for, against, or ambivalent about marriage being naturally for one man and one woman, and children doing best with a married father and mother under the same roof. The answer is self-evident. Despite judges, politicians, laws, or polls, real marriage is, has been, and always will be between a man and a woman, which, without a doubt, is the best environment to raise children."

"A republic is a government based on a written constitution and written laws, not upon the biases of judges or politicians," Thomasson said. "This latest bad law is more evidence that California is no longer a republic."
