A pro-family group Tuesday criticized a Democrat-controlled committee in the California Legislature for voting to approve "full-blown homosexual 'marriages.'"
Earlier in the day, the state Assembly Judiciary Committee voted 7-3 to pass AB 43, a bill that would repeal Proposition 22, which defines marriage as an institution between one man and one woman.
"Shame on the Democrat politicians for attacking and redefining marriage," said Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families in a news release. "This is an attack upon the voters and our system of government as much as it is an attack on marriage," he noted. "AB 43 shamelessly violates the California Constitution, which expressly prohibits the legislature from repealing voter-approved ballot initiatives. This is political arrogance in the extreme and another reason for the voters to despise the California legislature," Thomasson added.
The bill now moves to a vote by the full state legislature.
