Before leaving the homosexual lifestyle, Michael Glatze was considered a "rising star" in the gay (LGBTQ) movement. He was Editor in Chief of Young Gay America Magazine (which targeted gay teens and young adults) and respected as an authority on gay youth in America. He was featured in a Time Magazine cover story entitled "Gay Youth in America," in 2005, and received the National Role Model Award from prominent gay rights group Equality Forum in 2003. He helped produce the documentary film "Jim in Bold," which focused on gay youth in America, and was Editor of the XY Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know About Being Young and Gay, (XY Press, 2000), which was considered the first comprehensive resource guide for gay youth.

In 2007, Michael made headlines around the world when he announced that he had left the homosexual lifestyle, and was actively living a heterosexual life. Though Michael didn't call himself "ex-gay," others quickly put him in that category. In 2007, Michael was featured in media -- conservative and liberal alike -- as he described the perils and traps of homosexuality, the truths of the lifestyle, and the reasons why he had left it (and, his former career) behind. Michael became a born-again Christian in 2005. God led him to the truth about homosexuality, and ministry to young people attempting to heal from homosexual temptations and related misconceptions about this sin.
