'Day of Silence' at Public Schools Deceives About Victimhood
In California, those who practice homosexuality have more rights than others

Sacramento, California -- A leading pro-family organization says the "victimhood" message of today's pro-"lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender" (LGBT) "Day of Silence" disruption of public schools is deceptive because those who practice homosexuality have much stronger legal rights than other Californians.

Today, students participating in the "Day of Silence" are wearing pro-homosexuality T-shirts, delivering pro-"LGBT" speeches in classrooms of supportive teachers, refusing to answer teachers' questions in other classrooms, making it difficult for other students to concentrate, and generally taking over school campuses for the entire day.

"Who's victimizing whom? California laws have awarded those who call themselves 'lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender' more powerful legal rights than other people's free speech, religious freedom, or freedom of association," said Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, which promotes moral virtues for the common good. "These concocted 'gay rights' are trampling the First Amendment rights of everyday people who dislike this unnatural, unhealthy, and intolerant agenda."

"Numerous state laws are intolerant of religious freedom, so the homosexual-bisexual-transsexual agenda wins in court while average people lose their God-given and constitutional parental rights, property rights, and religious freedom," Thomasson explained. "It's deceptive to claim that homosexual students are silenced at school, or homosexual adults silenced in society, when it's the other way around. For example, a Bible bookstore in California can be fined up to $150,000, without a trial, for not waiting to hire an open homosexual or transsexual. And shocking sexual indoctrination is being fed children in public school behind their parents' backs. Talk about crushing religious freedom and trampling parental rights!"

"The way to stop the physical or verbal bullying of anyone at school is for parents and schools to teach Jesus Christ's rule to 'treat people the same way you want them to treat you,' and to apply that to everyone, not to just select groups," Thomasson said. "But given the immaturity of children, the more that sexual behaviors are pushed in students' faces, the more conflicts will likely arise. If not for a raft of state laws requiring public-school students to be sexually indoctrinated, government schools could focus on academics and teach moral virtues. But these days, that is only going to happen in church schools and home schools."

School administrators have frequently denied sponsoring, participating in, or allowing the "Day of Silence," but are allowing students to be silent nonetheless. "Morally-sensitive parents who hear about 'Day of Silence' are appalled at this hijacking of the school day," Thomasson said.

According to the "Day of Silence" website, three years ago, students at some 8,000+ elementary, middle, and high schools participated, as well as at some colleges.

The aggressive tactics of the "Day of Silence" are explained by homosexual activists themselves:

"The Day of Silence is a perfect tool for creating change. We wanted a queer-friendly prom, and after showing that many students and staff care -- we got a queer-friendly prom. We said we wouldn't be silenced and we won't."

"The Day of Silence can be a great tool to catapult change at your school! Do you want a more LGBT inclusive library, teacher training, LGBT inclusive nondiscrimination policies or something else?"

Thomasson concluded, "It's not academic to steal the school day for politically-correct sexual propaganda. It's not scientific to push being 'gay and lesbian' as good and natural without teaching children the facts that there's no 'gay gene' and that homosexual behavior is the primary mode of HIV/AIDS transmission. And it's not scholarly to claim this issue is about safety, since numerous laws already prohibit violence on school campuses."
