AB 2943 squashing choice and speech will be defeated
Thomasson: "If this blatantly unconstitutional bill isn't dropped, stopped, or vetoed in Sacramento, it will be struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court."
Sacramento, California (August 30, 2018) -- The California Legislature's most unconstitutional bill of the year will be struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court unless it dies a well-deserved death at the State Capitol in Sacramento, according to SaveCalifornia.com, a leading West Coast pro-family organization.
AB 2943 would forbid persons struggling with "LGBT" addictions from hiring a loving, professional counselor in California to help them overcome homosexual or transsexual desires. This unconstitutional bill denying people's free-will choices would also penalize churches, pastors, and para-church ministries if they held a paid event or sold a book on overcoming same-sex feelings.
"AB 2943 tramples basic American liberties of free speech, religious freedom, and the freedom to pursue your own self-improvement," said Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com. "If this blatantly unconstitutional bill isn't dropped, stopped, or vetoed in Sacramento, it will be struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court. There are already multiple challenges to AB 2943 being planned in light of this summer's National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra ruling, which recognized the free-speech rights of organizations and professionals. If passed and signed, AB 2943 will eventually be struck down, which would be a 50-state rebuttal of the intolerant 'LGBT' agenda, which is incessantly trampling other people's constitutional rights."
For two weeks now, AB 2943 has been on the Assembly floor, without its lead author, Evan Low, asking his Democrat Assembly leaders to bring it up for a vote. This unusual delay before the August 31 legislative deadline begs these questions: Does the author realize the unprecedented public outrage over AB 2943 would hurt Democrat candidates on the November ballot? Have enough Democrat assemblymembers told AB 2943's author they won't vote for it? Has Governor Jerry Brown privately communicated that he doesn't want AB 2943 on his desk? Has the bill sponsor, Equality California, decided that risking federal court challenges to AB 2943 could result not only in freedom of counseling for adults, but also for freedom of counseling for loving parents of gender-confused minors, thus rolling back the 'LGBT' activists' anti-free speech agenda?
"There are lots of people who've had gender confusion counseling and are a lot happier afterwards," Thomasson said. "If AB 2943's backers are so concerned about harm, he'd oppose the unhealthy homosexual and transsexual agenda, which has the highest HIV/AIDS transmission rate in our state and nation. How come the 'LGBTIQ' agenda encourages young people to question their heterosexuality, but is against anyone questioning their homosexuality? This freedom-robbing bill is profoundly unfair and blatantly unconstitutional."
"Consider that establishment entities generally view natural medicine, raw milk, homeschooling, spankings, and very religious families as 'harmful,'" Thomasson added. "Yet in a free society, what people choose for themselves is permitted. So should professional counseling for adults who want out of homosexuality and transsexuality. These are paying customers who seek self-improvement. What kind of society are we if we criminalize this redemptive healing?"
"Next time any of these anti-freedom legislators choose a personal or marriage counselor, let them be reminded what hypocrites they are for denying other people their own choice of a counselor," Thomasson concluded.
