Enjoy our Prop. 8 friend-of-the-court brief

Wednesday, January 30, 2013, 4:44 pm | Randy Thomasson

Good news! Our principled attorney friends at Liberty Counsel have filed a strong friend-of -the-court brief defending California’s Proposition 8 with the U.S. Supreme Court, which will hear oral arguments March 26.

This very solid brief represents the moral and constitutional values of both Liberty Counsel and our organization, Campaign for Children and Families, otherwise known as SaveCalifornia.com.

Our brief’s well-thought-out constitutional arguments address the false grounds on which homosexual activists are attacking real, man-woman marriage — specifically, the 1996 Romer v. Evans Supreme Court decision striking down Colorado’s voter-approved law against special rights based on “sexual orientation.”

Here’s the summary of our arguments in the brief:

1. Romer does not dictate the the outcome in this case as Colorado’s Amendment 2 and California’s Proposition 8 are legally and factually distinguishable.

a. Proposition 8 does not target a solitary class of people of discrimination.

b. Proposition 8 does not impose far-reaching changes in the law that impact broad protections in the private and public sphere.

c. Proposition 8 is consistent with the longstanding definition of marriage in California and, therefore, is not inconsistent with any emerging trend in California to redefine marriage.

d. Proposition 8 does not single out a solitary class of people and make it more difficult for them to petition their government for assistance.

e. Proposition 8 was not passed based on a bare desire to harm a specific group of people.

2. This Court should resist any effort to treat sexual orientation as a suspect classification.

From the Brief:

“Liberty Counsel is a civil liberties organization that provides education and legal defense on issues relating to traditional family values, including marriage, across the United States.”

“Amicus Campaign for Children and Families represents fathers, mothers, grandparents and concerned individuals who believe the sacred institutions of life, marriage, and family deserve utmost protection and respect by government and society.”

Be glad the Truth about abortion is reaching more people

Monday, January 28, 2013, 8:59 pm | Randy Thomasson

I want to thank you if you stood publicly for the lives of innocent babies in the womb this month, or helped others to stand publicly. There were numerous pro-life events in California and our nation, and SaveCalifornia.com urged people who know the Truth to participate.

The fruit of these public demonstrations is they 1) save babies, now and in the future, 2) reinforce moral courage and pro-life values for everyone who participates, 3) and educate many spectators through both earned media, paid media, and new media (the kind we control).

Some are publicly criticizing media outlets that are pro-abortion and refuse to report on pro-life marches, walks, rallies, and news conferences. But I don’t think this complaining does any good.

No, instead, we should be glad whenever the Truth gets into the media. And we should learn how to generate more media so more Truth gets out and more minds are changed.

For example, the Orange County pro-life demonstration on Jan. 22 was covered by TV news channels 2/9, 4, 7, and 11, as well as in the Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register. Organizers Bob and Bev Cielnicky worked hard to invite the media, and SaveCalifornia.com was privileged to be their media consultant.

Here’s a good secular news story covering San Diego’s Walk for Life on Jan. 19.

In San Francisco on Saturday, here’s one of the news reports of the 50,000-strong Walk for Life.

And, in Washington, D.C., despite the sparse national big media’s news coverage of the gigantic March for Life on Friday, this good report on Fox News Channel distributed a lot of Truth. So be glad when people who know the Truth work hard to get out the Truth!

I think we have deluded ourselves into believing that people don’t know that abortion is killing.
So any pretense that abortion is not killing is a signal of our ambivalence,
a signal that we cannot say yes, it kills a fetus.

If it’s wrong to kill innocent human beings…

Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 5:48 pm | Randy Thomasson

Babies in the womb would win the war against unjust and horrific abortion deaths if only the media would hold pro-abortion politicians accountable to define what abortion gets rid of.

In this Jan. 22 article in the Ventura County Star, pro-abortion Democrat California state legislators, who want more abortions, and I, who want an end to abortion, were quoted.

But the Democrats never say what their “abortion/privacy/choice/women’s reproductive rights” agenda is actually doing.

They never say WHAT they aborting — when they’re aborting a mother’s pregnancy with a human child by tortuously and barbarically killing the boy or girl in her womb.

In contrast, in my statement to the media on the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I said these preborn babies are innocent human beings, and that their human DNA proves it. Here’s the little bit of powerful truth that made it into the article:

…the head of an organization called SaveCalifornia.com issued a statement condemning abortion as murder.

“If you believe it’s morally wrong to kill innocent human beings,” said organization president Randy Thomasson, “then you must regard abortion as evil because every abortion barbarically slaughters an innocent human being.”

If you live in Northern, Central, or Coastal California, walk for life Saturday in San Francisco

For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
