When you stop and think about it, the real meaning of Thanksgiving is more than the 4 F’s — family, food, fun, and football.
Because when you turn the word around, Thanksgiving means giving thanks. And you thank a person, right? Because you don’t thank the air, or so-called fate, or the All-Nothingness.
Don’t know why to thank Creator God? Start by sincerely thanking Him for the air you’re breathing, and for all the food and water He’s created. Thank Him that you’re alive, and that every day is an opportunity to love God and people.
Ask this question at your table: “What do you thank God for?” Not why are you generally thankful, but WHOM do you thank and what specifically do you thank Him for? Because giving thanks to God is what Thanksgiving is all about.
thanksgiving: A public celebration of divine goodness; also, a day set apart for religious services, specially to acknowledge the goodness of God, either in any remarkable deliverance from calamities or danger, or in the ordinary dispensation of his bounties. The practice of appointing an annual thanksgiving originated in New England.
Noah Webster in his 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language
…because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
The Bible, Romans 1:21
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
Jesus Christ, Savior of the world and God in the flesh, in the Bible, John 4:23
