The good, the bad, and the ugly in California

Monday, January 15, 2018, 11:15 am | Randy Thomasson

One the best Westerns ever made was 1966’s “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” It starred Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef.

Here in 2018, you deserve to know “the good, the bad, and the ugly” about life in California and your prospects to do good. Here’s how I see it:

THE GOOD

1. Your chance to repeal the gas tax and DMV fee hikes: There’s a pretty good chance you’ll get to vote in November to repeal the unnecessary and corrupt gas tax and DMV fee hikes with a state constitutional amendment. This one has solid language and is currently gathering signatures. If approved, it will protect your family’s money and and trump the Governor, the Legislature, and the state Supreme Court.

2. Your chance to elect a family-friendly governor (and other state and local officials — it’s an election year and that’s good!): The major candidates for California Governor are currently 4 Democrats and 3 Republicans. If you want a mostly conservative governor, you’ll have that chance if you work to help your favorite candidate get elected. But for one of the Republicans to make the November run-off, I believe it’s necessary for other 2 Republicans to step aside.

And all the other statewide offices in California are up for grabs — Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor, Controller, Treasurer, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Insurance Commissioner. Add to this all 53 U.S. congressional seats in California, all 80 state Assembly seats, 20 of the 40 state Senate seats, and city and county and special district elections. What’s more, there will be statewide and local ballot measures.

Bottom line, if you want to change your government, get excited about the possibility of positive change this election year! Think lovingly, responsibly, and actively. Contact your favorite candidates to volunteer yourself and your family for half a day, at their campaign offices or in your neighborhood.

3. This might be the year we get religious freedom for wedding-related businesses and pro-life property rights for crisis pregnancy centers:

At the United States Supreme Court is the all-important case of a Christian baker who went with his religious freedom and obeyed God by not promoting a homosexual “wedding.” The fact that at least four justices took this case means at least four affirmative votes in 2018 for the First Amendment (you won’t find homosexuality anywhere in the Constitution). The deciding vote, Anthony Kennedy, seems newly concerned about religious freedom being trampled by homosexual “marriages.” Increasing our chances for a victory is there weren’t even four votes on the high court to accept a Mississippi case from the Left arguing that homosexuality was more important than religious freedom.

And for California pro-life crisis pregnancy centers, there is real hope to see the unconstitutional AB 775 overturned. This 2015 edict of the Democrat politicians required pro-abortion signage in the lobbies of pro-life clinics. At its core, forcing pro-abortion messages at pro-life centers forces them to say what they don’t wish. It’s compelled speech, a direct violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which reads in part, “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech.” A similar guarantee is mirrored in the California Constitution.

Now at the U.S. Supreme Court to be heard this Spring, I believe AB 775 has a good chance of being ruled unconstitutional; in the meantime, no crisis pregnancy clinic should post pro-abortion messages. SaveCalifornia.com was privileged to help find plaintiffs for a companion case “lobbying” the high court to take up this vital appeal.

THE BAD

1. More unnatural, tyrannical pro-transsexuality laws: If you’ve been tracking with SaveCalifornia.com over the past year, you know that the Democrat politicians in Sacramento (plus a handful of anti-family “Republicans”) imposed on you new laws that take away your religious freedom, free speech, and ownership rights. In effect today is SB 219, which forces California care facilities to do things the transsexual way, or face fines, closure, even jail time. Another anti-family law that will further confuse children is SB 179, which creates a non-existent 3rd “sex/gender” called “nonbinary.” In September 2018, California birth certificates must have this option; then, in January 2019, the DMV will begin issuing “nonbinary” licenses to anyone who requests one. These new laws defy reality, logic, and fairness, and they spit in the face of Creator God who made people either male or female.

ACTION: If you know of a church-based or religiously-organized long-term care facility, please contact SaveCalifornia.com at 916-265-5650. The tyrannical takeover of religious care homes by SB 219 deserves a First Amendment lawsuit in federal court.

2. Legal marijuana being sold commercially in California: Under California’s foolishly-approved legalization of full-blown marijuana (Proposition 64 in November 2016), commercial sales of pot to adults ages 21 or older kicked in this New Year. Of course, any 21-year-old who wants to make a buck can buy the junk and resell it at a premium to high schoolers. In Colorado, after highly-potent, mind-altering marijuana was legalized only for adults in November 2012, the rate of children using it skyrocketed.

As SaveCalifornia.com explains on our MarijuanaHarmsFamilies website, the Liberal Left wants the next generation to think it’s “normal” to “get high.” Studies show marijuana is a gateway drug to cocaine and meth. Teens and young adults are especially at risk from today’s potent, mind-altering marijuana, which can permanently damage their developing brains and young lungs. If pot is legalized, your health and auto insurance will likely cost more because increased addictions, accidents, and drug rehab will burden all Californians. “Drugged driving” will become commonplace. It will be a new “right” to get high on marijuana at work, even in transportation jobs. Marijuana legalization means cities and counties can OK selling pot in grocery stores and permit marijuana operatives to buy thousands of acres of farmland.

Now, the good news is the Trump Administration has announced it will combat the legalization of marijuana in California and a handful of other states. Federal law says the truth — that marijuana is harmful and illegal. On January 4, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions ordered federal attorneys (there are 4 U.S. attorneys in California and Sessions is hiring more) to enforce the federal law. This hopefully will mean shutting down commercial growers and sellers of marijuana in California. For the sake of children’s minds, bodies, and souls, please join me in hoping and praying that this will indeed happen.

3. More illegals in California than ever: It’s getting downright dangerous now that California’s new “sanctuary state” law is being implemented. The Democrat politicians’ new pro-illegal-alien policy places sharp limits on how state and local law enforcement agencies can cooperate with federal immigration authorities, placing California squarely and provocatively in conflict with President Trump and his calls to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.” Get it? Illegals who are career criminals will not be turned over to the feds but will be released “to go back out into the community, and people are going to be victimized.”

What’s the big picture? The Democrats in charge of California have been using all the magnets at their disposal to attract people to illegally cross over from Mexico. Invaders get virtually all the benefits of U.S. citizenship, including California driver’s licenses and government welfare, with zero legal need to learn English. Today, there is hardly any distinction or benefit of being a citizen versus a non-citizen. Illegally crossing the border has been rewarded with money, so it’s no surprise that, in 2014, California had at least 2.35 million illegal immigrants.

If the Trump Administration comes in strong to rid California of illegal-alien criminals, that would be a very appropriate use of federal power on a matter of national security in the rogue state of California. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), under the Department of Homeland Security, needs to get busy!

THE UGLY

1. Man-made wildfires and mudslides are the result of political neglect: The 9,133 separate wildfires in California in 2017 were not caused by lighting from the sky, but caused by negligent, unloving, or evil human beings. And the Democrat politicians in control of California government are permitting it.

Governor Jerry Brown labels California’s late-season wildfires “the new normal” and is publicly blaming “climate change” for this fall’s rapid spread of wildfires, while ignoring any cause of whoever or whatever ignited the flames in the first place.

Democrat politicians in Sacramento are asleep at the wheel. There have been decades of destructive wildfires in California, but the Democrats still haven’t passed good laws, such as requiring a wide swath — a “no burn zone” — between hillside brush and the houses beneath them; buying many more helicopters and jet planes to compose a quick-response, water-dropping “air force”; or announcing big fines for evil or negligent people who set or spread wildfires.

And beyond “downed power lines” that might have caused the big Santa Rosa fire in October, the Democrat politicians have refused to call on perpetrators to be identified and punished, when dozens of fires in October, November, and December “coincidentally” happened all at once. Wind doesn’t cause fires — people do, and there are enough evil young people in California who gain false significance by lighting fires on windy days. Yet as it is, Jerry Brown and the ruling Democrats are ignoring reality and are shunning the important warning that generations have heard from Smokey the Bear: “Remember, only you can prevent forest fires.” See more in my January 10 blog.

2. California has nearly the highest rate of sexually-transmitted diseases in the nation: The latest CDC statistics from September 2017 are described and linked here: “The problem is particularly severe in California, which has the nation’s second-highest rates of congenital syphilis. In 2012, 35 babies were infected. Last year, there were 206. “The number of reported STDs in California is increasing at a concerning rate,” Dr. Karen Smith, director of the California Department of Public Health, said in a statement Tuesday. “This is the third year in a row that we have seen increases in chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.”

This is crisis affecting California youth! All of you who know your history or your Bible know that debilitating and even fatal STDs were rare when God’s biblical values of chastity until man-woman marriage and monogamous fidelity within marriage were embraced as the cultural norm. And there was a time when homosexuality and transsexuality, which spread STDs the most, was avoided by the wide majority of people. Oh, the protection and benefits of obeying God’s commands!

ACTION: In your own family and church, please shepherd children’s hearts so that they willingly embrace sexual purity. Here’s a great resource: “Prescriptions for Parents”

3. Nationwide, most who were raised in the Church leave “faith” behind upon adulthood: Why? The government schools’ deceptive lies against God’s existence and miracles have been very successful. The major objections of young adults who abandoned their Protestant or Catholic faith are caused, in part, by the following: Unscientific “evolution” which claims there is no Creator or Sustainer; lack of belief that miracles have happened and can still happen; lack of critical thinking in the Church; no answers to hard questions about God and the Bible; lack of comprehensive bible study; lack of consistency in parents’ faith; and dissatisfaction with the “God is in control” mantra in the face of evil and tragedy.

ACTION: Prioritize teaching apologetics — WHY to believe WHAT you believe — to every family and every youth group within your church. Free videos | “I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist” | More free ideas

Can you be pro-life and still vote Democrat?

Friday, August 4, 2017, 9:17 pm | Randy Thomasson

SaveCalifornia.com provides this solely for educational purposes
and does not support or oppose candidates for public office.

In the national debate over whether you can be both pro-life and a registered Democrat (think of the majority of Hispanics), the fact is, voting for Democrats means voting for all abortions, including late-term and taxpayer-funded and even sex-selection abortions, without exception.

The Democrat politicians’ kill-the-unwanted-babies agenda is despite the fact that every baby growing in the womb is a unique human being, whose life is sacred, just like yours.

QUICK FACTS

In the United States House of Representatives, out of 194 Democrats there are only 3 or 4 members who vote pro-life on abortion.

In the California State Legislature, out of the current 54 Democrats in the 80-member Assembly and the 27 Democrats in the 40-member State Senate, none are pro-life and all vote pro-abortion. (Even if one or two say they’re pro-life on abortion, they vote pro-abortion nearly every time.)

These pro-abortion Democrat politicians are in severe conflict with the 23% of Democrat voters who consider themselves pro-life and the 25% of Democrat voters who want abortion to be illegal in most or all cases.

WHAT IT MEANS AND WHO TO TELL

If you vote Democrat, you’re in a very practical way voting for all abortions, including including late-term and taxpayer-funded abortions and even sex-selection abortions, without exception.

And if you’re voting for pro-abortion politicians, your conscience should bother you … because you figuratively have blood on your hands.

Please share these facts with Democrats you know. Start by sharing this with everyone on your list.

Will God hold you accountable for blood shed in your city? The Bible teaches that both individuals — and society as a whole — are responsible for what goes on in their land. In this interview, Pastor Matt Trewhella explains the biblical doctrine of Bloodguilt, and how the murder of innocent babies in your local area, has a direct connection with you and your children. Why Californians voted that way

Saturday, November 19, 2016, 1:04 pm | Randy Thomasson

politicalgeogfigure-4_web

(Updated December 8, 2016 with the final count)

Sad about California’s election results? I am, mostly.

But to avoid confusion and depression, it’s important for us to understand WHY the election turned out the way it did. Then we’re less likely to let our love grow cold.

Here are my thoughts:

Most Californians have an identity problem

Instead of going with evidence, logic, the Savior of the world Jesus Christ, and the written word of God (the Bible), most Californians consciously or unconsciously have competing “identities” and conflicting “standards.”

• They’re Democrats before they’re “Christian”
• They’re union members or “union families” who obey their union bosses
• They vote according to race or looks (not according to good public policies)
• They do what “feels right” to them (not what is right)
• They do what pleases others (but not pleasing God)

These false “identities” rival and replace being an American, a constitutionalist, a person devoted to logic and evidence, and even a biblical Christian.

In light of God’s 1st Commandment against worshiping any other “gods” and His 2nd Commandment prohibiting serving “images” of things we worship, these false identities that people create in their minds compete with God’s word, exacerbate bad government and its harmful laws, and become idolatries of the heart.

Most Californians don’t know who they are, why they’re here, where they came from, or where they’re going. No wonder “we” voted that way. Too many Californians think they’re “under God,” but have become slaves to their own foolishness and fancies. This is why our state is no longer blessed, but is inheriting the wind.

people, emotions, stress and health care concept - unhappy african american young woman touching her head and suffering from headacheMost Californians have a mental block

Unwilling to think critically, they just “feel” their way along. Yes, the government schools and the entertainment media have been very successful at dumbing-down people and promoting moral relativism (self-idolatry). So instead of finding God’s direction for belief and behavior in the Bible, they become disinterested in moral values or at least disinterested in a Biblical standard for decisions.

The result is like a drugged, numbed person who is:

• disinterested in their Creator God
• disinterested in clear Biblical standards
• disinterested in honestly contemplating their sins
• disinterested of critical thinking based on evidence
• disinterested in studying a proper role of government
• disinterested in knowing how we get a good economy

And because of this godlessness, ignorance, and idolatry, ONLY issues and messages that either MATCH the most basic of common human values, OR issues and messages that SUPERSEDE these false identities, AND ONLY what people CARE TO UNDERSTAND, will be popular and win on Election Day. It’s as though going beyond one’s “gut reaction,” and thinking about and studying up on a new issue, is unacceptably painful.

murderExample: Murder on the ballot

Victims of violent crime, or those who’ve been affected by it, or those who’ve been taught the most elementary, anti-crime values of local TV newscasts, are against murder. Indeed, the broad majority of voters in California are against murder and want it stopped.

Yet Californians are split on HOW to stop murder (because this involves critical thinking). However, a slim majority of voters still believe in the time-honored standard of the death penalty as the way to definitely prevent murderers from killing again, and to send a strong message to would-be murderers (primarily boys and young men) that they can’t get away with murder.

This is why Prop. 62 eliminating the death penalty lost on a close vote (46.8% YES versus 53.2% NO). And it’s why Prop. 66 streamlining the death penalty process, making it more likely to execute murderers, won on a closer vote (51.1% YES versus 48.9% NO).

Too many conservatives stayed home

dontvotedontcomplainYou must also factor in the SMALLER NUMBER OF CONSERVATIVE VOTES in California this election. Consider that there was no Republican or conservative running for statewide office in the U.S. Senate race to replace liberal Democrat Barbara Boxer. No unified “top of the ticket” to attract conservatives; no “coattails effect” helping “down-ticket” pro-family candidates.

And also consider that Donald Trump had divided moral conservatives. There were Republicans with generally conservative values who didn’t vote for President and some conservatives didn’t vote at all. With all the votes counted, Trump received 31.8% of Californians’ votes for president, compared to 37.1% for Romney in 2012 and 37.0% for McCain in 2008 (Trump received 356,146 fewer votes than Romney and 527,971 fewer votes than McCain). Having at least the votes of Romney and McCain would have brought out more conservatives, probably changing the outcomes of some propositions and district contests.

The relatively weak conservative turnout also helps explain why Republicans lost 3 seats in the State Assembly, lost 1 seat in the State Senate, and didn’t pick up any California congressional seats. (The 3 GOP assemblymembers who lost had voted for the “LGBT” agenda, they first “lost” votes from principled conservatives.)

biblegodsinspirationOn the death penalty measures, you must also factor in that California’s law enforcement unions and spokespersons were united in favor of Prop. 66 and against Prop. 62. Their money and public messages helped generate more votes from Californians who categorically respect the color of authority.

But Californians got it wrong on nearly every other proposition on the ballot.

• They didn’t understand that marijuana legalization harms people, especially teenagers and pre-teens who will become addicts.
• They didn’t understand that higher taxes on the wealthy and on cigarette smokers hurts the economy and promotes bigger, badder government.
• They didn’t understand that teaching foreign-born children IN ENGLISH is the proven way to gain English proficiency and promote cultural unity.
• They didn’t understand that ammunition doesn’t commit crimes, but sinful people do.
• They didn’t understand that plastic bags from grocery stores are not an environmental hazard but a helpful, sanitary tool for most families.
• And they didn’t understand that when the government or special interests demand more money, that’s tantamount to deceit and theft.

marijuanaharmsfamiliesbumpersticker

On marijuana legalization, SaveCalifornia.com and our faithful donors reached 1,487,401 potential voters via Facebook ads that featured our powerful 86-second video and our website MarijuanaHarmsFamilies.com.

But the non-thinking, morally-relativistic majority was besieged with tens of millions of dollars of ads that deceitfully urged them to legalize pot. And the majority of voters (57.1% YES versus 42.9% NO — a difference of nearly 2 million votes) bought hook, line, and sinker the “toleration” message that what’s risky or even harmful must be “accepted.” They didn’t realize that Prop. 64 will ruin children, make roads more dangerous, make life stinkier, and usher in a myriad of unexpected, negative consequences.

Sadly, younger Americans are deluded about the harm of today’s pot, so highly-potent marijuana wasn’t just legalized in California, but also in Nevada and Massachusetts. In my opinion, marijuana promotion to children is the most grievous thing that happened on Election Day 2016. As the famous Negro College Fund ad says, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

My advice for believers in God and believers in moral values: Choose to learn to reach more people to educate them on why moral standards benefit everybody, why big government and high taxes and fees are bad, and why reading, studying, and critical thinking is essential for a free society.

You can love God and love people by learning how to reach hearts and minds by creating simple websites, doing cost-effective web ads, making and distributing flyers, and helping stimulate people to think about the difference between good and bad. It’s up to us — and yes, we can learn and grow. Call SaveCalifornia.com at 916-265-5650 if you want to learn to do this.

7-differences-between-ordinary-and-wise-parentMy advice for parents with Godly or otherwise moral values: If you want to protect your children from mind-altering marijuana, please get them out of the government schools. In Colorado, marijuana legalization plus the negative peer pressure among public school children is causing more addictions among pre-teens and teenagers. Protect your children by homeschooling or enrolling them in a solid church school, and resolve to train your children to critically think about how to apply God’s word to everything.

Have the goal of training up not merely good children, but great children who will become outstanding adults who shine their light to please God and love people. Turn off the TV and internet and read to them (the Bible is great for this), and teach them to love reading and studying. Ask them questions about the proper role of limited government and ask them to research answers and report back to you.

For if John Quincy Adams, our 6th President, could, at 14, be a secretary and translator for the U.S. diplomat to Russia, and then, at 16, be a secretary for his father on a trip to negotiate the 1783 Treaty of Paris, we then can also train our children to have great minds and great actions based on the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ to “love your neighbor as yourself.” You are able and they are able!

set-your-expectations-rightMost of all, don’t abandon hope. If you avoid blaming the God or the devil for election outcomes, but realize that God has given free will to every human being (there’s no volitional sin or righteous judgment without it), you’ll be motivated to do what you can to stimulate people to look at the evidence of God’s beneficial standards for their lives. Evidence of benefit can be shown by research, and beneficial evidence usually agrees with God’s word. When we understand mankind’s responsibility, we adopt the right attitude and expectations — expectations based on hope and reality!

Finally, realize the value of exposing evil and the harm it does. Nationally, the Republicans won the White House and kept the Congress because alternative, conservative media sufficiently exposed the unconstitutional acts and excesses of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. In contrast, the harmful laws of nearly 60 years of nearly-consisted Democrat rule in the California Legislature, and the harmful consequences of today’s highly-potent marijuana, have not been exposed to the majority of Californians.

For the love of God and love of people, there’s a lot of work for us to do! Please commit today that you’ll be part of it, and learn biblestoriescartoonto shine your life in new and creative ways. People need Truth, and we need to authentically love our neighbor!

You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.
