51 Democrats + 4 Republicans attack ‘men,’ ‘women,’ ‘boys’ and ‘girls’

(This post was updated on May 12 when the final vote changes had been tallied and reported on the Legislature’s bill tracking site.)

I have very bad news to report. The California Assembly has voted to tear down “men,” “women,” “boys,” and “girls” signs at all single-user restrooms statewide. The State Senate votes next.

In the 80-member Assembly, the May 9 passage of AB 1732 was 55 to 19. But the inside story is Democrat bullies and scaredy-cat Republicans. Get this — only 1 Republican, James Gallagher of Yuba City, cared enough to speak on the floor against this tyrannical, anti-family bill.

Assembly floor “debate”on AB 1732

What’s the real goal of AB 1732? A decade of “all gender” single-user restrooms will be enough to desensitize young people to support “all gender” multi-person restrooms!

And the dozen or more Democrats who had refused to support AB 1732 for four straight floor sessions? They were bullied into submission. And of course, there were the four Republicans who voted against family values and religious freedom when they voted yes on AB 1732. Why do they call themselves “conservative”?

Thank you to EVERYONE who calls and sent emails in the weeks leading up to the Assembly vote. You did well, and you have my appreciation and admiration! But where were the churches, church schools and pro-family California businesses? SaveCalifornia.com’s intense lobbying effectively delayed a vote for two weeks, and helped change 2 Republicans from yes to no or abstain. And now, I ask you to act on your anger and concern on behalf of all that is good and right:

PLEASE RESPOND RIGHT NOW: Call to thank Assemblyman James Gallagher at 916-319-2003 for his gallant effort to stop AB 1732 by speaking against it on th floor. And call the 4 Republicans who voted yes and tell them they have voted anti-family: Catherine Baker, Ling Ling Chang, Young Kim, and Brian Maienschein. Every other assemblymember who claims to be pro-family, tell them how disappointed you are that they didn’t speak up and fight (and don’t accept any excuses). And yes, you can leave recorded messages after hours. Assembly Republicans | Assembly Democrats

Only 1 minute to oppose ‘assisted suicide’

Thursday, September 17, 2015, 8:10 pm | Randy Thomasson

CaliforniaCapitolDome
A few hours ago, a dear woman who is deeply against “assisted suicide” because someone in her family was euthanized called me to share her detective work on Jerry Brown’s administration.

She told me that when you use the governor’s web form, you can now click the suicide bill, oppose it, and your “vote” will be instantly tabulated by their computer.

So please do this right now — it only takes 1 minute! And then share with others how they can do the same. Help build a tidal wave of opposition against California becoming the Suicide State.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1. Go to https://govnews.ca.gov/gov39mail/mail.php

2. Under “Email the Governor,” choose “Have Comment”

3. Enter your First Name, Last Name, and Email Address

4. Under “Please Choose Your Subject,” scroll down to the very bottom of the list and select X2AB00015\End of life. (this is what the governor’s staff wrote and even though it’s not the exact number of the bill, they know it’s “assisted suicide,” so go with it)

5. Click “Continue”

6. A new page will open up

7. At the top of this new page, you must choose “Con” in order to have your opposition immediately counted (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART)

8. Under “Write your email,” you may enter in additional comments about why the “assisted suicide” bill is bad (some users have said you must write something in order to process your request, such as “Veto assisted suicide”)

9. Click “Send Email” and you’re done

MORE WAYS TO OPPOSE ‘ASSISTED SUICIDE,” WHICH IS ON JERRY BROWN’S DESK WITH ONLY 12 DAYS TO SIGN OR VETO
Do all 3: Web form, phone, fax

1. PHONE: Call the Governor’s comment line at 916-445-2841 9am – 5pm Monday through Friday. Push the buttons to get to a live representative and tell them you want the Governor to veto “assisted suicide,” ABX2-15.

2. FAX: Copy and paste SaveCalifornia.com’s pre-written, expert letter onto your business, church, school, or organization letterhead. All who fax Governor Jerry Brown their opposition to ABX2-15 on their official letterhead are a significant voice FOR natural “days of our lives” and AGAINST “assisted suicide.” Your business/church/school/organization represents people and community influence!

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

Suicide promotion bill stalled — act now to defeat it

Thursday, June 25, 2015, 1:35 pm | Randy Thomasson

respectlifefromconceptionto

I knew this could happen. Because suicide legalization has never passed a house of the California Legislature or passed on the California ballot, and only passed the state Senate this year, I knew that SB 128, the suicide promotion bill allowing doctors to prescribe a lethal drug to a so-called “terminal” patient, was a seriously uncomfortable notion that could be stalled in the Assembly. And that’s exactly what has happened, due to a preponderance of Latino Democrats who have a Catholic background with strong values against suicide.

Will this keep California from becoming the Suicide State that teaches young people that suicide is an answer? Yes, if Californians who care make phone calls to “hold” the reluctant Democrats on the committee and make them immovable (see phone numbers below).

When the Democrat author of SB 128 pulled the bill from the hearing roster on June 22, it was because the suicide bill didn’t have 10 votes to pass in the 19-member committee. You saw how SB 128 was in trouble due to a) concerns and proposed amendments from several of the committee’s Democrats, and b) public opposition — phone calls + expert lobbying at the Capitol + more people speaking out publicly. This is why SaveCalifornia.com has been working hard, both behind in the scenes and in public, as we’ve called on Californians to oppose this suicide promotion bill.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported: “Sources said six Democrats on the committee expressed reservations, five of whom are members of the Latino caucus. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, confirmed she is among those who oppose the bill, citing personal reasons.”

So this is a temporary victory and is definitely good news! The 5 Democrat Latinos on the Assembly Health Committee who wouldn’t vote for suicide are: Roger Hernández of West Covina, Miguel Santiago of downtown Los Angeles, Freddie Rodriguez of Pomona, Susan Bonilla of Concord, and Lorena Gonzalez of San Diego. The other reluctant Democrat on the committee, who is not Latino, is likely either Adrin Nazarian of Van Nuys or Tony Thurmond of Oakland.

TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION: Please continue spreading the word to others and calling the swing votes on the Assembly Health Committee, which could still vote on SB 128 by between now and July 14. Tell them “The proposed amendments still allow coercion when the lethal drug is swallowed, contains a mis-definition of the word ‘terminal,” and deceptively permits a falsified death certificate. Please vote no on SB 128.”

2. Tony Thurmond (916) 319-2015
3. Autumn Burke (916) 319-2062

Latino Democrats:

2. Miguel Santiago (916) 319-2053
3. Jimmy Gomez (916) 319-2051
4. Freddie Rodriguez (916) 319-2052
5. Susan Bonilla (916) 319-2014
6. Lorena Gonzalez (916) 319-2080

Committee Republicans:
1. Brian Maienschein (916) 319-2077
2. Rocky Chávez (916) 319-2076
3. Tom Lackey (916) 319-2036

“We cannot allow California to become a place where we respond to human suffering by simply making it easier for people to kill themselves. Helping someone die — even if that person is desperate and asks for the help — is still killing.”
