Good and bad Republicans

Tuesday, March 21, 2023, 3:27 pm | Randy Thomasson

I have long advocated against voting for “any Republican.” Because when you compare a liberal Democrat to a liberal Republican, ONLY the “Republican” can destroy the Republican Party from within.

And that’s what’s happening in California, as wrongly-motivated Republican officeholders and leaders partner with evil. Because when one’s motives are money, position, power, and false significance, it’s all too easy be self-centered and “sell out” to the highest bidder.

What is a good Republican?

SaveCalifornia.com reported to you last month about the Republican-majority city council of Huntington Beach no longer flying the “LGBTQIA+ pride” flag. Because their new ordinance only permits government and military flags on city property. This is highly commendable and a role-model for Republican city councils throughout California.

And nationally, it’s encouraging that, so far, 8 states have prohibited or restricted transsexual surgeries or procedures for minors. Florida just joined Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Mississippi, where state legislatures have a Republican majority. Republicans who voted yes are real Republicans!

What is a bad Republican?

Even when Republicans are the minority, they should speak up to sway key Democrat legislators and to educate the public. Yet, sadly, that’s not the M.O. of “Republicans” in Sacramento:

1. Silent Republican assemblymembers: Last year, several high-profile anti-family bills narrowly passed the Assembly floor when zero Republicans spoke to expose them. This was despite their offices receiving expert talking points about these truly awful bills.

2. Freshman Republicans selling out in Sacramento: And here in 2023, of the 8 freshmen Republican assemblymembers, several have already voted against family values. Voting yes on child mutilation and eliminating a parent’s right to know (AB 223) were Republicans Diane Dixon and Bill Essayli, while Republican Kate Sanchez voted no. Voting yes to accuse sincerely-religious law enforcement candidates of “biased conduct” (AB 443), when their social media follows a “hate group” (which Leftists call pro-family organizations in favor of Creator God’s design for marriage, sex, and family) were Republicans Juan Alanis and Tom Lackey. Coauthoring ACA 5 to put “marriage equality” on the ballot was Republican Greg Wallis. So far, half of the new Republicans – the RINOs — are selling out!

3. Anti-family, then “pro-family,” then anti-family: On Sunday, March 12, at the California Republican Party convention, 70% of the delegates voted to fully embrace (permanently charter) the “LGBTQIA+”- agenda “Log Cabin Republicans” (founded in 1977 to advocate for homosexual teachers). Eyewitnesses saw Assemblyman Bill Essayli of Riverside County stand and speak in support of honoring and embracing this anti-family group.

The following day, Monday, March 13, Essayli held a district news conference to publicize his amended bill, AB 1314, to require public schools to inform parents in writing if a child “identifies” as “transgender.” Yet the very next day, Tuesday, March 14, Essayli voted yes in committee for the Democrats’ AB 223 to push aside parents by requiring secrecy for minors seeking a legal change of “gender identity.” So he’s against secret “transitions” at school, but OK with them in court?

By advocating for the “LGBTQIA+” agenda at the GOP convention and in committee, Essayli has shown his true colors. His legislation to notify parents of their child’s “transgender” identity won’t survive a Democrat-run committee, but his vote for secret “transitions” in court will likely pass the Democrat-controlled Legislature. “Republican games” like this are sickening, aren’t they?

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Jesus Christ, Savior of the world and God in the flesh, in Matthew 6:24

MAM’MON, noun Riches; wealth; or the god of riches.
Noah Webster, American Dictionary of the English Language, 1828

Again, the Constitution trumps Democrat politicians!

Monday, January 30, 2023, 7:01 am | Randy Thomasson
Here’s a much-needed constitutional victory, with more work to be done!

On January 25, U.S. Judge William Shubb of Sacramento issued a strongly-worded preliminary injunction against AB 2098, a Democrat law permitting the state’s medical board to yank the licenses of physicians who “disseminate” information regarding COVID-19 that departs from the “contemporary scientific consensus.”

So, for the time being, California doctors and surgeons who study science won’t be punished for telling the truth. A needed win!

Judge Shubb is an 84-year-old Republican who seems to still remember and respect the First Amendment. He was nominated in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush, and before that clerked for a Republican federal judge of President Dwight Eisenhower.

There are still enough constitutional judges on the federal courts — either at the district level or in the appellate courts and, depending on the issue, at the U.S. Supreme Court. Therefore, now is the time to file lawsuits against other unconstitutional laws passed by the Democrat-controlled California Legislature and signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

TAKE ACTION:

1. Learn more about why bad Democrat laws passed and signed last year can and should be overturned.

2. Think about people you know who will be victimized by these bad laws (see the slides below) and help them contact attorneys who can help (see last slide).

Free speech, like other constitutional rights, only makes sense if one is free to use it unwisely. Otherwise, there’s no freedom to speak; there’s only a freedom to speak what some arbiter declares to be the truth.
Stephen Carter, former clerk for Democrat U.S. Supreme Court Judge Thurgood Marshall

Should Kevin McCarthy become speaker?

Monday, January 2, 2023, 10:45 pm | Randy Thomasson
U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) with his good friend, pollster Frank Luntz

SaveCalifornia.com provides this solely for educational purposes
and does not support or oppose candidates for public office.

Update Jan. 6, 11:17 p.m. PT: Trickery has made RINO Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield Speaker of the House. In tonight’s 15th ballot for speaker, because 4 RINO Republicans purposely didn’t vote and the 6 moral-values constitutional stalwarts voted “present,” this lowered the threshold of votes needed. Conservatives, you now have 3 RINO Republican speakers in a row — John Boehner, Paul Ryan, now Kevin McCarthy, all birds of a feather who value power over principle. Still, the very public 3 days of resistance by 21 Republican U.S. Representatives very concerned about corruption at the top was so needed. And while not replacing a RINO (Republican In Name Only) with a constitutional fighter, there were several important concessions won in negotiation with McCarthy to make the House rules the fairest in decades. Constitutional Americans must hold McCarthy accountable to his promises. I grieve the agreed-upon framework does not include a House investigation into election fraud of the 2020 and 2022 elections. For how can we have a democratic republic without the confidence of one person, one vote? In all of this, conservative constitutional voters are excited about Matt Gaetz, whom I believe could be Florida’s next governor, and a great one at that.

Update Jan. 5, 8:31 p.m. PT: So far, there have been 11 defeats for California RINO Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield. Eleven slow, roll-call votes over the last 3 days, and each time McCarthy failed to reach 218, which is the minimal majority of elected House members. I’m still predicting McCarthy will NOT be elected Speaker of the House. As someone who tries to be “stubborn” for what’s right in God’s sight, I recognize there are at least 5 “Never-Kevins” in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is enough to block him from reaching 218. They are Matt Gaetz of Florida, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana. And likely even more “Never-Kevins.” As Matt Gaetz said this evening on the Laura Ingraham Show, “I will not be voting for Kevin McCarthy. I resent the extent to which he utilizes the lobbyists and special interests to dictate how political decisions, policy decisions, and leadership decisions are made. We have zero trust in him.” Starting 9am California time on Friday, Jan. 6, you can watch Day 4 of the speakership battle on https://www.c-span.org or https://live.house.gov.

Update Jan. 4, 9:16 p.m. PT: With the evening floor session quickly adjourning without a vote, we know there will be a Republican speaker of the house, but it won’t be Kevin McCarthy. At least 5 Republicans who are currently voting for moral-values constitutional Republican Byron Donalds of Florida have publicly said they’ll never vote for McCarthy, who will never get to the 218 votes needed, and someone more conservative and honest will be chosen, probably within a couple days. Why this fight? For decades now in our country, the establishment, power-over-principle, cave-to-immorality  “Republicans” have waged a not-so-quiet war with constitutional Republicans. We get RINOs when average Republicans vote for “the lesser of two evils,” which means worse and worse elected representatives, shutting out less-moneyed constitutional conservatives. It’s remarkable on the House floor 21 Republican members are standing firm to say “No more.” These moral-values constitutional champions against corruption deserve our applause. Have a Republican U.S. Representative? Call 202-225-3121 (the Capitol switchboard) and tell him or her how you want them to vote.

Update Jan. 3, 3:48 pm PT: There’s a constitutional revolution on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives! Today, on the third ballot to elect a new Speaker of the House, constitutional Republicans who want a fighter for moral, social, and fiscal values increased from 19 to 20 votes against RINO Kevin McCarthy of California and in favor of pro-family conservative standard-bearer Jim Jordan of Ohio. If they hold out for days or weeks, they can prevail; because 218 votes are required to be elected speaker, and McCarthy is only getting 202 votes. See the latest here. The House will reconvene Wednesday 12 noon ET. You can watch the floor action live here.

On Tuesday, January 3, the new Congress will be installed, and the new, Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives will vote to replace Nancy Pelosi as speaker.

Yet with Republicans holding a slim majority in the new House, the question is not whether a Republican will replace Pelosi, but what kind of Republican?

If you’ve been tracking with SaveCalifornia.com the past year, you know the intense war between Good and Evil will not be won by merely “voting right.”

In 2022, silent Republicans in the California Assembly helped bad bills pass. Likewise, on December 8, 2022, the tyrannical, sexual anarchy bill, H.R. 8404, passed the U.S. House, with Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries (the new Democrat leader), and Steny Hoyer (the #2 Democrat under Pelosi) all standing and speaking for it.

But unlike his Democrat counterparts, the Republican minority leader, Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield, didn’t stand and speak on the floor, and it’s apparent he didn’t in a Republican caucus either.

Because less than half a dozen Republicans spoke against this monstrous bill on the floor, and 39 “Republicans” voted for it, including McCarthy’s lieutenants Elise Stephanik (third-ranking House Republican) and Tom Emmer (incoming GOP Whip).

So, you have to ask — what good is it to read the U.S. Constitution on the floor — as Kevin McCarthy plans to do — if you won’t speak up and fight for religious freedom in the First Amendment, which H.R. 8404 crushes?

Here’s more about McCarthy’s actions hurting constitutional values:

June 15, 2016: Caught on tape: When learning the Russians had hacked the Democrat National Committee, McCarthy said, “I’ll guarantee you that’s what it is…The Russians hacked the DNC and got the opp research that they had on Trump.” “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump. Swear to God.”

January 2021: McCarthy was again recorded, saying what he planned to tell outgoing President Donald Trump: “It would be my recommendation you should resign” and in assessing President Trump’s peaceful, First-Amendment comments at the Jan. 6, 2021 Stop the Steal rally: “atrocious and totally wrong”…”incited people”

May 3, 2021: Tucker Carlson reports that Kevin McCarthy is “rooming” with Frank Luntz, who’s been working hard to “moderate” the Republican Party

February 17, 2022: Lou Dobbs: “I’ll be kind, if not RINO, a middle-of-the-roader. I personally believe him to be outright a RINO. The party needs strength, it needs vision, it needs energy, vibrancy, and new blood in leadership — it’s that simple.”

When the U.S. House of Representatives votes January 3, McCarthy can lose no more than four Republican votes, and it’s predicted 10-15 constitutional fighters will block McCarthy’s bid to become Speaker of the House. Hopefully a conservative, constitutional fighter, such as Matt Gaetz or Jim Jordan, will be elected on a succeeding ballot.

“Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.”
