California’s gasoline supply is evaporating

Friday, December 5, 2025, 11:09 am | Randy Thomasson

If you voted for Democrats, you voted for this!

In 1982, California had more than 40 refineries, and soon will go down to only 7. When this happens, the gasoline supply will become unstable, resulting in shortages, while prices skyrocket — courtesy of the anti-people Democrat Party politicians in control of California state government.

Phillips 66’s refinery in Los Angeles is closing down this month. Then, as soon as January, Valero will shut down its big refinery in Benicia at the southwest edge of Solano County.

Newsom & the Democrats (who control 3/4ths of the seats in both houses of the California State Legislature) were warned in Spring 2025, but so far they’ve done nothing substantial to prevent this supply-chain problem:

GasBuddy.com’s Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick De Haan on his X account said“It’s clear that the political environment in California has been hostile to refiners, and the state badly needs to revise its mentality or face a declining number of refineries and higher prices.”

So why are California gas prices already the highest nationwide?

As oil expert Dave Noerr told the California Globe:

“The growing difference between the price of crude oil and the retail cost of gas and diesel as well as the additional cost Californians pay compared to every bordering state and the rest of the U.S. is:

  • The Sacramento surcharge
  • The cost of California
  • The growing of Government
  • The Low Carbon Fuel Standard
  • The Cap and Trade Program
  • Vapor recycling requirements
  • Data collection
  • Air quality mandated equipment replacements

So California, the fact of the matter is, you are paying the same or less for the crude oil contained in a gallon of gas or diesel. You are just paying a lot more for government.”
