Is your child’s school or your church safe? Probably not.

Sunday, December 16, 2012, 2:52 am | Randy Thomasson

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about Friday’s shocking massacre of 6- and 7-year-olds — 20 children total — along with 6 adults. All these innocents slaughtered by an evil, demonic, 20-year-old murderer who gained entry to a public elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

You wouldn’t know it from listening to the mainstream media, but criminals don’t usually target people or places where they know people are armed for defense. Instead, the body bags are piling up in “gun free zones.”

In our God-ignoring, dehumanizing culture, I’m afraid we’re going to see more mass murders, like this one planned in Oklahoma but foiled just a few days ago. In schools, in theaters, in church buildings. For people are being increasingly regarded as things. Babies, children, women, men, the elderly. America’s self-centered culture and the hedonistic media messages that people digest from their youth are teaching them that other people are either useful, useless, or in the way, rather than innately precious in God’s sight.

As godlessness rises in society, violent attacks will correspondingly increase in formerly “safe” places. That’s why church shootings are on the rise, as was reported in 2007.

Consider last month in Los Angeles: “For God’s sake, if people going to church aren’t protected, then who is?” asked a nearby business owner, who bolted out of his store when he heard the gunfire and saw the dead man lying on the asphalt, surrounded by loudly grieving parishioners. — Church shooting over graffiti outrages L.A. neighborhood, L.A. Times, Nov. 5, 2012

Anti-crime expert John Lott says to protect people at churches, schools, and theaters, there need to be people inside who are armed and trained to shoot in defense. “There are simply too many possible ways to get into different buildings, as the killer at the Batman movie showed by bringing his weapons through the locked emergency door at the back of the theater,” Lott writes. “To reduce future carnage, the key is to get someone with a gun quickly at the scene. Quick responses not only limit the number of casualties, but reduce the attention these killers garner from committing their crimes. We can’t get rid of gun-free zones soon enough.”

Do you lock the door of your home at night? Do you lock your car doors? Yes, you do. Are you ready to use a gun in self defense at home to protect your family? You need to be. Will anyone protect your children if you send them away to a school, or protect your church congregation, if a crazed gunman decides to shoot up the school or the church building? The honest answer is no — not unless there are armed people there who are trained to shoot down murderous assailants.

We must stop fooling ourselves. To protect ourselves and others in our increasingly violent society, responsible citizens must be armed at home and designated, trained individuals should be armed and ready for an intruder at school campuses and where local churches gather. More schools and local churches are using paid security and putting together a comprehensive security plan. The Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock had their men bring loaded muskets into the congregation house because they knew about possible Indian attacks. We should be as wise and as loving today.

No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.

But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

What I told the media about marriage, teach to your children

Friday, November 30, 2012, 6:57 pm | Randy Thomasson

The media were ready today for a decision on Proposition 8 by the United States Supreme Court. The nine justices met in a closed session to decide which cases to accept on appeal, including California’s Prop. 8 on marriage and several cases challenging the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act. No announcement from the court on these marriage cases, but word is expected next week. Then we’ll know whether Prop. 8 has a chance to be rescued from the judicial activist federal judges in San Francisco.

Here’s what I told the Sacramento Bee this week, which appeared in a front-page story today:

Randy Thomasson, president of the conservative SaveCalifornia.com, said he would be “surprised and shocked if you couldn’t find four votes on the high court to take this case.” For the court to deny review, he said, “is basically unleashing the wolves against marriage and the vote of the people.”

And here’s what I emailed to Sacramento Bee columnist Anita Creamer, when she asked for my comment today. While I don’t know whether she’ll publish any of this, I still want you to see it so you can teach these truths to your children and grandchildren:

California voters have twice affirmed the self-evident fact that marriage is only for one man and one woman when they approved Proposition 22 in 2000 and Proposition 8 in 2008. But in the end, the truth isn’t based on votes or opinion polls or mere feelings. When it comes to real marriage, human physiology clearly shows that a man and a woman are physically designed to fit together. Science continues to show that there is no “gay gene,” therefore no special rights or laws are justified for those who engage in homosexual behavior. And study after study continues to affirm that the best environment for a child to be raised is with a married father and mother living under the same roof. Government schools and the entertainment media have done a powerful job of teaching moral relativism ad nauseam, while avoiding the teaching of real science and biology on this matter. And with no rigorous critical thinking taught in public schools, it’s not surprising that the younger generation is confused about sexual absolutes and numb to societal consequences. The truth has always been, and will always remain, no matter what any law says, that if you don’t have one man and one woman, you don’t have real marriage.

The day after: My take on California’s November 2012 election

Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 4:26 pm | Randy Thomasson

SaveCalifornia.com provides the following solely for educational purposes
and does not support or oppose candidates for public office.

Without an army, there is no defense and no opportunity to revolt against tyrants. This is true for defending territory and for defending or attaining good government.

California conservatives have no standing army, nor do California Christians, compared to the standing “armies” of the union bosses with big war chests, who consistently fund Democrat candidates and big, immoral government.

How did we get here? As a whole, the Church is either anemic or AWOL when it comes to civic responsibility. This is the consequence of believing you shouldn’t mix religion with politics, a sure recipe for immoral government. This mindset invites evil to win. For you can’t have religious freedom without political action, and you can’t have good government without Christians working to gain and maintain it.

So, without a truth standard to know what is RIGHT, and without a standing “army” to put MIGHT behind what’s right, it’s not surprising that California conservatives and Christians have not taken new ground, but have lost more ground in this election.

Today, lackluster RIGHT and missing MIGHT has resulted in Democrats apparently capturing a 2/3rd supermajority in both the California Assembly and California Senate, empowering them to directly raise taxes.

The union-backed Democrats needed only two more seats in each house. Senate Democrats have likely picked up three seats (SD 17 on the Central Coast, SD 19 in Santa Barbara/Ventura counties, and SD 31 in Riverside County). And Assembly Democrats have captured what appear to be two seats (AD 32 in Kern/Kings counties and AD 65 in north Orange County).

Meanwhile, California voters have approved:

Prop. 30 to raise taxes on all Californians

Prop. 36 to release some career criminals

Prop. 39 to give businesses more reason to leave

Prop. 40 to keep biased legislative districts

A wise historian once observed, “Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.”

Where is America right now? Probably between apathy and dependence. Where is California right now? I think in a state of dependency headed back toward bondage. What is the solution? Spiritual truth, God’s truth, applied in people’s lives and applied to political involvement.

Don’t throw your hands up and say there’s no hope. Instead, commit yourself to become more responsible or productive in the opportunities God has given you. Remember, freedom is not free.

So I ask — will pastors, who are supposed to guide and equip believers in Jesus, teach them to be holy and fruitful, courageously helping people to personally repent and politically repent of their wicked ways? Will professing Christians repent, reject ignorance, and put on love by creating a citizen army in their communities that can win future elections? (Here’s how).  Will professing Christians resign from their union to keep working but stop subsidizing immoral government? These choices are in your hands.

SaveCalifornia.com is leading and working to renew the culture by stimulating believers to be difference-makers in their communities. Together, let’s persevere and shine Jesus’ light of truth into the darkness of our culture, reaching people who desperately need God’s wisdom for themselves and their families.

“As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man as ruler in Israel.’ But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods, and worship them, then I will uproot them from My land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast out of My sight, and will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.
