How I overcame ‘Hernia Hill’

Sunday, November 26, 2017, 9:10 pm | Randy Thomasson

Sometimes, the most powerful story of perseverance is your own.

Like that impossible situation you determined to take on…
Or that amazing opportunity where you gave your all…
Or that crucible where you did what’s right, despite temptation or opposition.

For me, learning about perseverance started on “Hernia Hill.” It was an incredibly steep hill I faced many times running on the cross-country team in high school.

That hill was dreaded by every guy on the team, including me. But oh, the goodness that awaited just beyond the peak as “Hernia Hill” descended to flat land — the coveted finish line!

During one race, I ran my best and found myself in second place just before the steep incline. Pressing ahead in pain when my body was telling me to quit, I pushed myself past my opponent and won, setting a school record.

At the time, I didn’t realize the impact that conquering “Hernia Hill” had on me. I could have quit when it looked impossible. I could have walked away when it got too hard.

Thankfully, I didn’t.

That young story of perseverance helped build in me the fortitude that I would eventually need to work in Sacramento for pro-family values, and ultimately the leadership of SaveCalifornia.com.

To be bold and persistent. To stay the course when it gets hard. And to do what’s right for our side — no matter the outcome — and despite opposition from enemies of the moral and Biblical values you and I hold dear.

Yes, the lessons then prepared me to live out of my comfort zone. Like lobbying politicians at the State Capitol; debating liberal opponents on local and national TV; working on a slew of challenging issues impacting moral values and our freedoms in this state.

I hope as you reflect on your times of perseverance — your own “Hernia Hill” — you will recall the magnificent endurance you learned, and how it helped you be a stronger person today.

Because we both know that perseverance is absolutely required by moral patriots such as you and me.

And just as you have persevered so many times, like I persevered in cross country, SaveCalifornia.com has been persevering for children and families in California since 1999.

THANK YOU for being a part of who we are and what we do. Thank you for allowing me and our Team to work FOR you and your family, and AGAINST the radical Left that desperately wants to silence our voice for Godly values and remove our freedoms.

Together, let’s keep persevering for all that is good and right and true. Let’s keep running the race and fighting the good fight in California. Thanks again!

P.S. It’s an honor to represent your voice and your values in the fight for what’s right in California. As we persevere on behalf of your family values, we would be honored to receive your generous support. Your tax-deductible gift to SaveCalifornia.com will give a voice to your values, and provide bold representation on key issues impacting your family. Together, let’s make sure our voices are heard, not silenced! Give your gift here.

Blessed is the man who endures temptation;
for when he has been approved,
he will receive the crown of life
which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations,
knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Did you cause California’s wildfires? Should your monthly bill go up?

Thursday, October 26, 2017, 6:04 pm | Randy Thomasson

In the aftermath of the 2017 wildfires, will California government add misery upon misery?

The “Big 3” public utilities in California are basically admitting substandard power lines and equipment caused at least some of this year’s destructive wildfires, including October’s large fires in California’s Wine Country, which destroyed an estimated 3,500 plus structures and killed at least 41 people.

Right now, attorneys and lobbyists for Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric are vigorously lobbying the California Public Utilities Commission to try to raise your gas and electric rates for THEIR problem.

The injustice of this (Creator God commands in Exodus 20 “Do not steal” and “Do not covet…anything that is your neighbor’s”) puts SaveCalifornia.com in strong agreement with a San Francisco-based consumer group.

In California, both “Left” and “Right” should grasp the reality that if the “Big 3” utilities (which constantly fight against competition and prefer a virtual “energy monopoly” over you and your family) have their way, your monthly utility bills will be jacked up and your service will ultimately go down:

But consumer groups say the push by PG&E and the state’s other two large utilities — Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric — is out of line. If the PUC allows utilities to pass along most of their uninsured wildfire costs to ratepayers in the form of higher monthly bills, critics say, they will have less incentive to properly maintain wires, trim back trees and take other sometimes costly measures needed to reduce wildfire risk.

“PG&E and the other utilities are very vigorously lobbying to see that the costs of disasters be covered by ratepayers, even when they are found negligent,” said Mark Toney, executive director of The Utility Reform Network, a San Francisco consumer group.

“The shareholders benefit when the company does well,” he said. “They have to pay when the company doesn’t do well.”

TAKE ACTION NOW. The five members of the Public Utilities Commission are all Democrats appointed by Governor Jerry Brown. Since they claim to be for the poor, CALL AND LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR THE COMMISSIONERS, such as:

“I’m calling to leave a message for the commissioners: Oppose any and all rate hikes. The wildfires aren’t my or my family’s fault. Don’t punish us with higher monthly bills, which we can’t afford!”

The 2nd best gift you can give your children

Sunday, December 4, 2016, 7:15 pm | Randy Thomasson

I’m writing this with the assumption that you intensely love your children and grandchildren.

This month of Christmas can be a time when you think about the best, lasting gifts for life that you can give your children. Because a good gift that powerfully affects a child internally is always better than satisfying temporary wants or external needs.

I’ve already written how I believe the very best gift a parent or grandparent can give a child is to introduce them to their tremendous need to repent before, trust in, and worship their risen Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of their heart, mind, soul, and strength.

But now I want to share with you what I believe is the 2nd best gift that you can give to the children you love. And it totally supports and applies the best gift.

First, a stark truth about a big educational problem:

Today’s public schools are no longer good for children academically, socially, physically, or spiritually.

Here are some disturbing facts that every parent should realize:

1. If your children are in California government schools, they will be sexually indoctrinated.

It’s because of 10 statewide laws promoting sexual anarchy (homosexuality, bisexuality, transsexuality, and heterosexual sex among minors) to children as young as kindergarten, with no parental opt-in or opt-out. Harmful, sexual indoctrination? These laws guarantee it.

2. Your children are unlikely to learn to read or compute adequately in the public schools.

According to the 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress (“The Nation’s Report Card”), only one-third of California public school kids are proficient in reading or math and two-thirds aren’t.

4th grade reading, proficient or above: 34%
4th grade math, proficient or above: 34%
8th grade reading, proficient or above: 31%
8th grade math, proficient or above: 33%

Reading and mathematics proficiency are the #1 thing that schools should be teaching, right? Kids should be taught to read well, write well, and compute well, correct? Obviously, academic excellence and loving children is no longer the goal of the union-controlled, government-run school system.

3. Your children will be greatly subjected to negative peer pressure in the public schools.

Children in public schools are more likely to have earlier experiences and develop negative habits in these areas: lying, cussing, cheating, excessive dieting, wearing revealing clothes, pornography, sexual activity, smoking, drugs, alcohol, and even violence. The Bible affirms that “bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33). Read more about peer pressure

Hopefully what I’ve written has interested, disturbed, and motivated you to take action. Because you have only one chance with your children — they grow up fast!

Please accept my good challenge to think about what I’m saying. Show decisive, sacrificial love to your children. Determine to rescue them from today’s dysfunctional, negative, non-academic, godless government schools.

You can do what’s right in God’s sight. You have the ability to train up these precious young ones and protect them from bad influences. Choose today that you will rescue them with the gift of homeschooling or a solid church school!

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
