ACTION: Call Roy Ashburn’s office at 916-651-4018 or email him and demand that he resign. Even if you’re told he has voted pro-family in the past, he is untrustworthy now. Also call your California state senator and state assemblymember and tell them to urge Roy Ashburn to resign. Find their contact information.
Now he’s completely “out.” Monday morning on the radio, Republican State Senator Roy Ashburn of Bakersfield said “I’m gay.”
Should Ashburn resign? Yes, he should. His lying, cheating ways have boiled over and the public’s trust has been shattered.
For all these reasons combined, Ashburn must go:
• He swore to uphold the law, then broke the law and endangered others by driving drunk.
• He vowed to be faithful to his wife, then broke his vows when he chose homosexuality over his marriage.
• He signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, then broke his pledge in 2009 when he voted in favor of the biggest tax increase in state history.
• He repeatedly lied to people who asked him to honestly tell them whether he was living the homosexual lifestyle.
• Now that he has openly identified with the “LGBT” lifestyle, Ashburn is dramatically out of step with his constituents, has lost their trust, and is in danger of voting against their conservative family values.
Demonstrating himself to be self-serving, Ashburn has proven himself untrustworthy as a public servant. He should resign.
Secret abortions performed on minors (girls under 18) are a serious problem in California. It is estimated that more than 20,000 abortions are performed on minor girls each year in California without ANY requirement that a parent or guardian even be notified.
Sexual exploitation of parents’ daughters by older men is also a serious problem with the internet, social networking, and cell phones making it easier for predators to contact minor girls. If a girl becomes pregnant, a predator can coerce her to have a secret abortion, often paid for by taxpayers, to “get rid of the evidence” of statutory rape. Hear the “secret tapes” of Planned Parenthood hiding statutory rape evidence.
Obviously, caring parents need to teach their children to remain morally pure, with no sexual activity until marriage. These videos and curriculum will help.
But as voters, California parents and grandparents need to do more. In the 36 states that have parental notification or consent laws, the result has been, on average, a 13.6% drop in teen abortions.
Why do these parental involvement laws work? Teens get the message that they shouldn’t have sex because, if girls become pregnant, they can’t get secret abortions without their parents being told. The result is protection for unborn babies who would otherwise be killed and for teen girls who would otherwise be physically violated and emotionally damaged.
California desperately needs a parental notification law. And the good news is, with your tangible help, it can happen.
Take immediate action
California is ready to pass a rock-solid constitutional amendment that ends secret teen abortions and strengthens the God-given bond between parents and their children.
Your help is needed to place the Parental Notification Amendment on California’s November 2010 ballot. Please collect signatures on petitions from family and friends, and in your neighborhood, workplace and church building. It is perfectly legal for churches to ask people to sign petitions for this moral ballot measure in the sanctuary or the foyer.
To request petitions, send an email with your name, mailing address and phone number to ParentalNotification@California.USA.com or leave a message with your contact information when you call 916-427-1671.
Remember that in November 2008, the Parental Notification Amendment on California’s ballot nearly passed, receiving 48.04% YES votes!
And with conservative voters motivated to turn out heavily this November, the odds are favorable to finally win this year, if only enough signatures can be gathered to qualify this important ballot initiative. Approximately 1.2 million raw-count signatures are needed by the first week in May. Please do your part today!
Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? Proverbs 24:11-12 NIV
I’m calling on everyone who loves God and loves people to an urgent, important, and pleasurable task. Together, we can and we must rescue our youth from being ruined by immoral influences.
There’s a life-affirming, faith-affirming film that needs your support. Please seeTo Save A Life, which is coming to the big screen January 22. After seeing an advanced screening, I can say that To Save A Life is the best tool in America right now to reach teenagers and young adults with the truth that God can save them and show them a better way of life.
For the sake of the next generation, please join me and prioritize taking yourself and the mature teenagers and young adults you know to see To Save A Life. This film is rated PG-13because it shows real-life temptations of teens. Please watch my movie review below for specific cautions and the official trailer.
The family-friendly film The Secrets of Jonathan Sperryis playing again in select theaters. We were so impressed and moved with Sperry’s strong Christian message, that SaveCalifornia.com is sponsoring the showing of this film in Carlsbad, California on the weekend of Feb. 26. Visit our SECRETS OF JONATHAN SPERRY page to see the trailer and find out where it’s showing.
BE INSPIRED AT HOME
I avoid most movies in the theaters because they have garbage and appeal to prurient interests. Instead, I’m seeing great movies to view at home. Although they weren’t box office hits, they’re hits with me because they inspire and improve the soul.
I can’t say enough good about The Board. This 40-minute short film is a masterpiece. It was beautifully produced by an Ohio church, but it doesn’t look anything like a church movie. The Board is a very gripping portrayal of how our soul — our mind, feelings, conscience, heart, will and memory — all combine to make a decision for or against Jesus. I found it personally edifying because it reminded me that everything I do has already been approved by my mind, conscience, and heart. I give The Board my highest recommendation!
I also recommend the The River Within. This heartfelt and inspiring movie centers on a 20-something believer and a pastor who learn that talking about the Christian life is a whole lot different than living the Christian life. Through twists and turns, you can’t help but connect with the characters in this film as several plot lines merge and lead to its dramatic conclusion. The River Within is a clear message about doing God’s work, not “just talking.”
What’s really impressive is that The Board and The River Within were produced with very small budgets and volunteers, but both films have excellent cinematography, story line, characters…and by everything I can see, God’s blessing.
Another excellent movie I recommend is Time Changerstarring Gavin McLeod. This film is challenging and stimulating. It explains how America fell away from God’s standards, and how God’s Word is essential to the health of nations, churches, and generations of families.
While I’m at it, let me recommend the 20-minuteButterfly Circus. This short film by Joshua Wiegel about two very different circuses and a life-changing ringmaster is a powerful message of hope and redemption. Warning: this film can make you cry. It stars Nick Vujicic, who was born without arms or legs. The Butterfly Circus is the winner of the 2009 Doorpost Film Project. View this beautiful film online.
But again, my priority, your priority, every concerned person’s priority is to see To Save A Life on opening weekend January 22-24. And don’t just go yourself. Bring along teenagers and young adults you know. Then afterward, talk about the life lessons and the spiritual themes. If you’re a Christian, I recommend you take some Gospel tracts if, after seeing To Save A Life, someone want to pray to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
