Ask yourself — is Love my main motive?

I saw this car in a parking lot and just had to take a picture. The bumper sticker “Love God / Love People” can and should be the singular goal of people who claim (like on the cap behind the window) that “Christ is King.”

The older I get, the more I question my motivations. Am I here on earth to serve myself, or to serve my Maker and His created people?

For if my self-satisfaction relies on my own comfort and pleasure, isn’t this the very definition of selfish? And if my values are merely “traditional” and not my heart beating hard with love, how quickly my values can be ignored under pressure or diminish over time.

Think about. Every baby is born selfish. This is why each one of us must teach ourselves God’s principle of love, unless it was drummed into our heads by wise parents (which is exceptional).

I’ve tried to define love Biblically as “giving God’s goodness.” One of my favorite Bible commentators, Adam Clarke, who was a protégé of John Welsey, defined love as simply “pleasing God” (how different from the love definitions of Hollywood, the world, and our own flesh!).

What’s more, I’m remembering that “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15) means a God-approved truth with a God-approved motive. And I remind myself that my act of love for others is not dependent on people recognizing it as love or even their reaction to my love. Most of all, I’m holding fast to the reality that God defines Truth, but I decide whether to love with the right motive followed by the right action.

So if, like me, you find yourself deficient in love, just sincerely confess and repent of it before God. Then you’ll bear fruit in life and get good things done because your mind is refocused to love people on God’s terms. Don’t think it’s too hard, because you were created for this!

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’’’
Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV

The love of our neighbor springs from the love of God as its source; is found in the love of God as its principle, pattern, and end; and the love of God is found in the love of our neighbor, as its effect, representation, and infallible mark. …This is the religion of Jesus! How happy would Society be, were these two plain, rational precepts properly observed! Love Me, and love thy Fellows! Be unutterably happy in me, and be in perfect peace, unanimity, and love, among yourselves. Great fountain and dispenser of love! fill thy creation with this sacred principle, for his sake who died for the salvation of mankind!
“Prince of Commentators” Adam Clarke on Matthew 22:39

Put on love and logic and visit our Election Center

Everywhere you look, you see bad news about the consequences of America embracing liberal ideas and abandoning God. But did you ever think how people with moral values have been swept up by some liberal ideas too?

Look at this election. If everybody who said the word of God was true, or better yet, that the Bible is their standard for life, voted — can you imagine the good government that would result?

Or if people with moral values actually knew how to vote and didn’t get distracted, can you visualize the bad politicians — and even the bad judges — that could be swept from office?

But the liberal philosophies of pleasure-seeking (resulting in sloth) and self-centeredness (resulting in lack of love) have weakened what used to be called the “moral majority” in America.

Because twenty or thirty years ago, there were a lot of moral Americans who remembered what duty meant.  But many of those old timers have died off.

So for the sake of our generation and future generations, it’s high time for you and I regain an ethic of love and logic — to love God and our neighbors, and to understand the technological and historical opportunities we have to make a difference.  For it is hypocritical to complain about bad news if we refuse to vote wisely or help others to do the same.

This ethic of love and duty is especially needy this election, when evil wants to take more territory and when the opportunities to do good are among the highest in California history (because of low-voter turnout).

So please…grab your sample ballot and visit our Election Center. Then, to make an immediate difference, share with your friends how you’re voting

Guest-hosting the Janet Mefferd Show

It was a privilege to talk to pro-family Americans June 13 on the Janet Mefferd Show on more than 130 radio stations across the U.S.

Janet Mefferd is a very principled Christian talk host and she’s had me on as a guest several times over the years. This time, I was in the Sacramento studios of KFIA AM 710 to guest host all 3 hours  “by remote.”

Here’s what I covered during this live show:

Hour 1: A rash of school shootings — the problem, the solution
Hour 2: Unconstitutional judges vs. real marriage / “gay rights” vs. faith
Hour 3: Fathers are not fools like TV depicts / the deception of superstitions

The listeners seemed to enjoy the Christian values that I, my guests, and most callers represented.

Joanne in Montreal, Canada. who called in, said, “I really love the topic today, you’re doing a wonderful job.” Elsie in Fort Worth, Texas, said, “I’m enjoying the show, this is awesome.”

You can hear some or all of the show, archived here

…but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
